Born in Upper Darby, PA, Cheri Oteri moved to Los Angeles at age 25, where she worked at A&M Records and eventually joined the famed comedy troupe The Groundlings. It was there that she was discovered and hired by Saturday Night Live.
Oteri would eventually form a third of the so-called “SNL female power trio” that also included Molly Shannon and Ana Gasteyer. On SNL, she was known for playing a myriad characters, including “Arianna,” one half of “The Spartan Cheerleaders” alongside Will Ferrell; Italian lady who polices the street from her front yard “Rita DelVecchio”; hyper child bus passenger “Althea McManaman”; overly perky, and ill-informed, “Morning Latte” talk show host “Cass Van Rye”; and “Nadine,” a testy employee who constantly orders everyone to “Simma down now!” Her dead-on impressions of Barbara Walters, Mariah Carey, Robin Byrd and Judge Judy also bolstered her fame.
Her other television credits include guest spots on Strangers with Candy, Just Shoot Me, (for which she received an Emmy nomination), Hot in Cleveland, Boston Legal , Sit Down Shut U, Liza The Life Coach for AMC, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and a recurring role on the new hit show The New Normal. Since Oteri left SNL, she has appeared in several movies, including Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, Scary Movie, Small Soldiers, Inspector Gadget, Liar Liar, Dumb and Dumberer, Surveillance (which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008), and Shrek the Third. She just completed co-starring roles in the upcoming films Bad Parents (with Janeane Garafolo) and Grown Ups 2 (with Adam Sandler, Kevin James, David Spade, and Chris Rock).
Oteri lives in Los Angeles.
